ABOUT ME
My name is Rosie Steinke. I live in a small town in Iowa near the Mississippi River and have raised five wonderful children who are now fully grown with families of their own. I am the owner of ‘Lucky Wun Kennels’ Chinese Shar-Pei. My interest in dogs and particularly the Chinese Shar-Pei breed developed when I got my first Shar-Pei in 1980. Since this time, I have successfully bred hundreds of Chinese Shar-pei as well I have been involved in showing and judging at National specialty events. I love the Shar-Pei breed and I'm excited that you too share this interest, whether it be in breeding, showing, or just loving Shar-pei’s as pets.
DOG SHOWS/AWARDS
I began showing my dogs in 1984 and in 1985 I attended my first National Show in Michigan. We did very well at that show, taking Best Opposite Sex puppy, also taking first in a large Brood Bitch class. Over the next twenty years, our success continued and we have finished many A.K.C. Champions.
In 2004, at our National Show in Decatur, Illinois, we took Grand Futurity Winner with one of our home bred males. In 2006, at a show in Springfield, Missouri, we took Grand Maturity Winner with one of our home bred females; she also took Best of Winners, finishing her AKC Championship at that National Show. Lucky-Wun Kennel has enjoyed and appreciates these wins against so many quality competitors.
Personally, I have had many honors in the breed. I have judged three times at our National Specialty Shows. I was the First AKC judge to judge at our National Show. I have also had the honor of being the first Shar-Pei breeder to receive the Bred by Exhibitor medallion from the AKC. This is a medal that is given to each breed by the AKC for exhibitors that finish their dogs with an AKC Championship title by competing in the Bred by Exhibitor class only.
I still enjoy the breeding, showing and judging of the Shar-Pei and have collected many "firsts" within the breed. One of my most enjoyable experiences was the honor of judging the National Specialty for the Shar-Pei Club of Italy in the Fall of 2006.
TIPS/ADVICE FOR PURCHASE
Since I have much experience in breeding Shar-Pei’s, I thought it might be helpful for those of you interested to share a few tips to remember when purchasing any breed of dog. The most important step is to do your best in researching the Shar-Pei breed and breeders before a purchase. Keep in mind that all puppies are cute, but each has developed its own personality even at the puppy stage. It is important to match your potential puppy’s characteristics with that of your family. To this day temperament tops my list of desirable traits in my breeding dogs.
Make sure to pay special attention to the breeder. If a breeder doesn't have time to answer your questions, don't waste your time with that person, move on to someone who is willing to help educate you on the breed before your purchase.
The Shar-Pei is a very loyal, intelligent, and clean dog. If trained and cared for properly, they have sweet temperaments and are good companions for all ages (children to adults) as well as other household animals. A plus is that they are very easy to housebreak; many of our puppies are already housebroken by the time they leave here at ten weeks of age.
LUCKWUN’S PURCHASE/PRICING INFORMATION
When purchasing a puppy from Lucky Wun Kennel’s, you can expect the puppy to have received at least one shot, wormed twice, removal of all dew claws, and if needed, their eyes tacked, at the time of pick-up. These expenses are included in the price of the puppy. Shipping is the responsibility of the buyer.
After over 25 years of being in the Shar-Pei breed we have lots of endorsements from previous buyers, also we are the only Shar-Pei breeder that local veterinarians will recommend because of the health and temperament on our dogs. Now that is an endorsement money can't buy! Before purchasing, references can be provided upon request.
IN CONCLUSION
The Shar-Pei has opened a wonderful world for me and my children; my two youngest children traveled with me to many shows while growing up. My youngest daughter even had five Shar-Pei's in her wedding!!! Her veteran dog was the Ring Bearer!
I am blessed to share my world with this wonderful breed. I have made many "forever" friendships because of the Shar-Pei and maintain close relationships with those I have met while attending dog shows.
I'm thankful for this extended "family", with both dogs and people that have greatly enriched my life forever.
Feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns.
